The College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHUSS) announces the CHAUKIDU International Kiswahili Conference to be held at Makerere University, 10^th-13^th December, 2026. CHAUKIDU is an abbreviation of 'Chama cha Ukuzaji wa Kiswahili Duniani' i.e. The Global Association for the Promotion of KIswahili.

The conference will bring together Kiswahili scholars from all over the world, e.g America, Europe and Africa.

Conference theme: "Kiswahili na Lugha Nyingine Afrika: Mustakabali wa Ndani na Nje ya Mipaka ya Darasa katika Dunia Inayobadilika"

This conference will be hosted by the Department of African Languages, School of Languages, Literature and Communication, CHUSS.

Conference dates:

• 10^th Dec 2026 - 'Workshop on Competency Based Education' and 'Techniques of teaching Kiswahili as a foreign language'
• 11^th Dec 2026 - Official opening and initial presentations
• 12^th Dec 2026 - More conference presentations and closing
• 13^th Dec 2026 - Touring interesting places in Kampala Metropolitan Area
