Event Details

Makerere University in collaboration with Higher Education Resource Services-East Africa (HERS-EA) conducted a landscaping of the level of involvement of female academic staff in university leadership in East Africa. The study was funded by Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) and implemented in 30 selected universities in East Africa with support from the Inter University Council for East Africa (IUCEA).

The landscaping involved a scoping review of literature, a rapid online survey and key informant interviews with relevant stakeholders involved with higher education in seven East African countries. The study also benchmarked against selected universities in South Africa and the United States to identify good gender policies and practices that have produced good outcomes towards ensuring gender equality in university leadership.

The findings from this work are ready and we welcome you to a dissemination meeting to participating institutions and stakeholders across seven countries in East Africa.
