The College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHUSS), Makerere University in conjunction with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) together with the Japanese Embassy in Uganda are organizing a 4 day event with multiple activities from different stakeholders.

Theme: Learning from Japan's unique Experience of Development

Day 1. Tuesday 22nd March, 2022

JICA Chair Special Lecture by Dr. Pressello Andrea, Associate Professor, National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS), Japan

Title: "Post-World War II Japanese Foreign Policy: Through the Lens of Japan's Diplomacy Towards South East Asia"

Day 2. Wednesday 23rd March, 2022

Special Lectures

  • H.E. Fukuzawa Hidemoto, Ambassador of Japan to Uganda on "Japanese Corporation in Post-war era and Economic Growth"
  • Dr. Edgar Curtis Taylor, CHUSS, Makerere University and Mr. Nelson A. Abiti, Principal Conservator Museum Services/Curator of Ethnography and History, Uganda National Museum on "Archives, Museums and Public History in Uganda"

Day 3. Thursday 24th March, 2022

Special Lecture by Dr. Charlotte Mafumbo, CHUSS, Makerere University

Title: "Uganda-Japan Bilateral Relations: A Special Focus on Higher Education Since 1962"

  • Presentation on "Presence of JICA - Introduction of JICA's cooperation in Uganda" by Mr. Ivan Muhame

Day 4. Friday 25th March, 2022

Special Lecture by Dr. Deo Katono and Dr. Zaid Sekito, CHUSS, Makerere University

Title: "The Place of Japan in the History Curriculum in Uganda"

  • Introduction of Japanese Culture
  • Closing Ceremony
