Launch of Processed COVID-19 Convalescent Plasma Investigational New Drug, Wednesday 16th September 2020, 9:00 to 11:00am, Main Hall, Makerere University and on ZOOM

On 16th June 2020; Makerere University through its center of excellence for lung science, the Makerere University Lung Institute (MLI) together with the Department of Immunology and Molecular Biology in partnership with Mulago Hospital, Uganda Blood Transfusion Service (UBTS), Joint Clinical Research Center (JCRC) and Uganda Peoples Defense Forces (UPDF) Medical Services, embarked on a project to collect and process COVID-19 Convalescent Plasma (CCP) from COVID-19 recovered persons for use in the treatment of COVID-19 in Uganda. These efforts are funded by the Government of the Republic of Uganda through Makerere University Research and Innovations Fund (Mak-RIF).

To date 162 CCP units have been collected.

An event to launch CCP as an investigational new drug, has been organized to take place on Wednesday September 16th 2020, 9:00am-11:00am EAT at Makerere University Main Hall as well as on ZOOM.

Hon. Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero will grace this event as the Chief Guest to launch the processed CCP before it is administered to the first patient in a Randomized Clinical Trial which has received all research regulatory approvals.
