The International Office, Makerere University invites you to a talk by Professor Amitabha Gupta.

Prof Gupta will give a talk on the following topics:
a) A distinction between Hard and Soft Science and
b) Investigation into Theories of Rational Thinking, considered to be a soft science that plays a crucial role in Social and Human Sciences

Professor Amitabha Gupta from India is visiting Makerere University for four days from 16th – 19th May 2017. He was a Professor in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at Indiana Institute of Technology Bombay until his retirement in 2005.

He was a Visiting professor at University of Paris in 2003, a CNRS Fellow from 1993 – 1994 in Paris and a Visiting Professor at University of Pune and in 2008 at Central University Hyderabad.

He was elected a member (2009 – 2015) of the “Association for Symbolic Logic”s (ASL) Committee for Logic in East Asia. ASL is the highest body in the world on Mathematical Logic and publishes the Journal of Symbolic Logic.

His areas of specialization are Mathematical Logic; Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Cognitive Science; Philosophy and History of Science.
