The total scholarship offer for each student from a genuinely disadvantaged socio-economic background for the Academic Year 2018/2019 is  Uganda shillings 2,800,000  (Two million, eight hundred thousand shillings only).

"Since 2001, Makerere University has been offering scholarships to students who excel academically but are unable to afford University Education because of their poor socio-economic background. This effort has been driven by the Gender Mainstreaming Directorate (GMD) through partnerships with various stakeholders. These include: Makerere University (through a
fees waiver scheme), the Carnegie Corporation of New York, the MasterCard Foundation, the Governments of Sweden and Norway among others. To date, 1,029 students have benefited from the scholarships," highlighted Dr. Euzobia M. Mugisha Baine,  Ag. Director, Gender Mainstreaming Directorate.
