Makerere University One Health Institute - Cohort 2019 Community Interaction

Makerere University One Health Institute is due to run over the Semester I Christmas recess (December 2018 to January 2019). This is inter-disciplinary training using a “One Health” approach targeting both students and faculty of programs that contribute to improved health outcomes

Subsequently, undergraduate students in teams will then interact with communities Kampala and surrounding urban areas for 2 weeks. In this environment the students in collaboration with the community shall identify and assess the health challenges. The students shall be exposed to some elements of the One Health approach and their practical application. They will be given an opportunity to apply and improve on technical knowledge and skills in contributing to solving complex health challenges in these communities. In addition this will improve on the students skills in communication and social (team) skills with various stakeholders.

One the other hand, the graduate students will be given fellowship placements of a duration of 60-days The targeted institutions which have institutionalized and practice the One Health approach include  Government Ministries of Health, Agriculture, Agencies and NGO’s.
