The Directorate of Research, Innovations and Partnerships (DRIP) remains committed to advancing high standards of research ethics and governance at Makerere University, in alignment with both national and international benchmarks. Following deliberations at the meeting on Strengthening Ethical Oversight and Research Governance at the University, it was observed that earlier engagement of graduate students on issues of research ethics is essential to promote timely compliance and safeguard the quality and integrity of research.

In response, the Directorate has organized an online sensitization session for graduate students, scheduled for 9th April 2026 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The session will introduce participants to fundamental principles of research ethics, the role of Research Ethics Committees (RECs), and the ethical approval processes within the University. The workshop will also serve as a platform for graduate coordinators and academic mentors to engage with our graduate students on matters of research ethics and approval.

The workshop will be facilitated by Research Ethics Committees (RECs) at Makerere University, Directorate of Graduate Training, Directorate of Research Innovation and Partnerships as well as Uganda National Council for Science and Technology. Some of the key topics to be discussed are presented in the Poster attached. The zoom link for the event will be shared upon registration on the link provided or by scanning the QR code on the Poster.
