We cordially invite you to the Makerere University Research and Innovations Week 2025, happening from Tuesday 8th to Thursday 10th April 2025.

This event will showcase groundbreaking research and innovations driving Uganda’s development, supported through the Makerere University Research and Innovation Fund (Mak-RIF). This research fund initiative is propelling Uganda toward middle-income status by generating credible evidence to inform national priorities and accelerate progress. So far, over 1,300 multidisciplinary projects have been funded.

Makerere University is honored to host H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni, the President of the Republic of Uganda, as the Chief Guest, who will be accompanied by Hon. Janet Kataaha Museveni, the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports.

The Research and Innovations Week 2025 will feature an exhibition and plenary sessions concurrently. The exhibition will consist of both science and arts-based Research and Innovations projects addressing each of the thematic areas of the Mak-RIF Research agenda as outlined below;

  • Theme 1: AGRICULTURAL TRANSFORMATION, FOOD SECURITY AND LIVELIHOODS
  • Theme 2: HEALTH AND WELL-BEING
  • Theme 3: SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY
  • Theme 4: NATURAL RESOURCES MANAGEMENT, URBANIZATION AND CLIMATE CHANGE
  • Theme 5: CULTURAL, HERITAGE AND CREATIVE ARTS
  • Theme 6: GOVERNANCE, SOCIAL JUSTICE AND HUMAN RIGHTS
  • Theme 7: ECONOMIC GROWTH AND INNOVATION

The plenary sessions will take place in the Makerere University Main Hall, Seminar Room, and the Senior Common Room of the Main Building.
