The current global statistics of women in chemical sciences is less than 20%, and Uganda is no exception, despite the university's affirmative action policy. The Uganda Society of Professional Chemists (USPC) with support from the Royal Society of Chemistry- United Kingdom have organized the IUPAC Global Women Breakfast (GWB). USPC is a non-profit organization established in 2010 to unite chemists and professionals from related fields for the transformation of livelihoods through advancing the chemical sciences.
The goal of the GWB is to overcome the barriers to gender equality in chemical sciences in Uganda. This event is scheduled to take place at Makerere University Chemistry Department Main Lecturer Hall on Friday 27th September, 2024 from 9:00- 12:00pm to honor the first female to graduate with PhD in chemistry , the first female professor in chemistry, and current female whose remarkable work in the realm of chemistry has significantly impacted the community in Uganda. We believe that recognition of the females
in chemical sciences will not only advance gender equality and diversity but will also
contribute to fostering an environment that supports and encourages females to pursue careers in chemistry. The Guest of honor in this event will be the Minister of Science Technology and Innovation, Office of the President.
