Makerere University through the Gender Mainstreaming Directorate (GMD), in partnership with University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA through the 4W Women & Wellbeing Initiative, the United Nations Association of the United States of America (UNA-USA) Dane County Chapter, Wisconsin, USA and the Higher Education Resource Services-East Africa (HERS-EA), Uganda have organized a virtual parallel event scheduled to take place on THURSDAY, 14TH MARCH 2024 AT 5:30PM – 7:30PM EAT.
The title of the parallel event is “THE ROLE OF HIGHER EDUCATION, PRIVATE SECTOR AND CIVIL SOCIETY COLLABORATION FOR THE ECONOMIC SECURITY OF GIRLS AND WOMEN”.
This parallel event will be held as part of the 68th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women. The CSW is instrumental in promoting women’s rights, documenting the reality of women’s lives throughout the world, and shaping global standards on gender equality and the empowerment of women. The proposed format of the event is a virtual panel discussion preceded by a Keynote address.
The goal of the event is to showcase how collaborations between Higher Education, the Private Sector and Civil Society are contributing to gender equity and the economic security of girls and women. The event provides an opportunity to share individual and collective institutional experiences on how Higher Education, Private Sector and Civil Society collaborations strengthen institutions that are addressing poverty and financing for the economic empowerment of girls and women. Dr. Maggie Kigozi, Chairperson, Board of Trustees, Makerere University Endowment Fund (MAKEF), Uganda will be the keynote speaker.
