The Makerere Law Society (MLS) is celebrating 50 years of existence since 1971. To mark this celebration, the MLS has proposed to have a moot competition presided over by the justices of the Courts of Record. The theme for this moot is on the subject of Transitional Justice which as we know, is the different mechanisms employed by a post conflict society to comes to terms with its turbulent past.

The oldest society in Makerere University brings together brilliant and talented students of law in the University. The principal objective of the MLS is to promote the traditions and aspirations of the legal profession among law students and foster social interaction at all levels to produce holistic lawyers with an aim to create a responsible society.
Over the past 50 years, the MLS has been able to build a robust partnership with other entities in the Justice, Law and Order Sector in Uganda such as the Judiciary, Uganda Law Society, law firms, civil society organizations and corporate companies many of whose human resource are alumni of the prestigious Makerere Law Society. These partners have been generously instrumental in supporting projects organized by the Makerere Law Society. The overall theme of the MLS golden jubilee celebrations is “Celebrating 50 Years of The Makerere Law Society; Diversifying Professional Knowledge and Career Opportunities for Law Students Through a Robust Alumni Network.”
